Cheryle Allen (Anderson) Wills

Cheryle Wills Obituary Cheryle passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of February 22, 2023, at the age of 79. She died after a long fight against the ravages of dementia. Cheryle (nee) Anderson Allen Wills was born on February 4, 1944, in Jefferson City, MO to Dr. Charles E. and Marjorie L. Anderson. Cheryle was the oldest of three children, a brother, Charles “Eddie” Anderson and a sister, Linda Louise Anderson. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death. Cheryle grew up in Bedford, MA and graduated from Bedford High School. Cheryle attended Fisk University in Nashville, TN and completed her studies at U.C.L.A. in Los Angeles, CA. After graduating with honors, Cheryle moved to Cleveland, OH. Cheryle became a prominent business, political and civic leader while living in Cleveland, and served on many professional and community boards such as the Phyllis Wheatley Association, Goodwill Industries and served as President of the United Way of Cleveland, New York, NY and United Way Worldwide. She also served on the boards of Karamu House, Cleveland Public Library, Cuyahoga County Mental Health and Retardation Board, Cleveland Business League, CEOGC, and Cuyahoga County Black Women’s Political Action Committee. In addition, Cheryle received numerous awards for her outstanding performance in her role as a civic and business leader including but not limited to the National Council of Negro Women, Distinguished Service Award from the Cleveland Jaycees, and the Black Professional of the Year award. Cheryle was also named as one of Twenty Outstanding Women in Greater Cleveland and a member of the charter class of Leadership Cleveland. Cheryle traveled extensively. She was a member of many professional and social clubs such as Jack and Jill of America Inc., Urban League of Greater Cleveland, N.A.A.C.P, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, New York Chapter as well as her beloved sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. Cheryle leaves to mourn her loss: two sons, her beloved boys, Jae Scott Allen, Duane Edward Allen: her cherished grandchildren, Jae Scott Allen-Wills II, Alexis Wills-Moorer, and Adonia Louise Allen: her great-grandchildren, Tori Allen, Madison Holland, Victor Moorer II, Bella Moorer, and Mia Moorer: nieces, Shawn Allen and Charlain Allen: cousins, Bernard Thompson, Michael Fosberg, Charles ”Robbie” Robinson, Angela and Mark Granberry and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and friends too numerous to mention with the exception of one very special acknowledgement to Patricia Turner Cunningham who provided comfort and assistance to the family during Cheryle’s fight with dementia.
