Mrs. Carol Y. Small Robinson

Carol Small Robinson Obituary Carol was born February 3, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio to Mother Tereatha and Pastor Sam Edward Small. She received Christ at an early age at the Starlight Missionary Baptist Church (Lakeview location) where her father ministered. Music also captured her at an early age, as the rhythmic sounds of melodies and harmonizing created a new-found love and passion. Carol’s desire and dedication to music was easily recognized by many. Especially Sis. Ledora Pugh, former music director at Starlight Missionary Baptist Church, resulting in an opportunity for Carol to showcase her talent as the director of the church’s Youth Choir at the early age of 12. Shortly after initiating her post as Youth Choir Director, she was chosen to be the Minister of Music. Her energy, style and unifying personality carried over to the Union District Association Youth Department where she became the choir director under Sis. Ann Burks. Carol’s influence on the Cleveland gospel music scene was intensified by Pastor Small’s growing involvement with the National Baptist Convention, James Cleveland Gospel Music Workshop and gospel music icon Edwin Hawkins. She sang with the Twilights of Joy and Directors, Musicians and Singers of Northeast Ohio (D.M.S.). During the mid-80’s to early 2000, Carol enhanced her experience as the director of the Voices of Victory Young Adult Choir at Starlight Missionary Baptist Church. Carol’s love for the youth population continued through her adult life. She became a Sunday school teacher at her home church, helping with new converts transitioning. In addition, she created a prevention program called the Youth Enrichment Self-Motivation Program, also known as the Y.E.S. Program, for the youth members of Starlight Missionary Baptist Church. The program was designed to help the youth deal with the challenges of the negative environment surrounding them. Aside from her heavy involvement in the church, Carol dedicated 29 years to AT&T Global as a Service Representative and Chief Union Steward. In September of 1977, Carol married Salem T. Simon III and from this union Salem T. Simon IV was born. After her first marriage dissolved, Carol vowed her love to Staff Sergeant Richard L. Robinson on November 22, 1986. During this marriage, Carol and Richard fostered the lives of Carolyn (Small) Minnor and Edward Small. Carol remained devotedly married to Richard until his untimely passing. Carol leaves behind her children Salem Simon IV, Carolyn Minnor and Edward A. Small; grandchildren Christian Small, Kailin Simon, Simone Simon, Salem Simon V and Winter Minnor; siblings Carl P. Small (Sylvia), Anthony L. Small (Carol D.), Michael D. Small (Sandra) and Sharon T. Small; and a host of nieces and nephews. In transition she joins her brother Charles E. Small (Ladelle), Mother Tereatha Small, husband Richard L. Robinson and her father Pastor Sam Edward Small.
