Bonita Rochelle (Lacy) Feagin

Bonita Feagin Obituary Bonita Rochelle Feagin, affectionally known as Bonnie by her family and friends, was born on July 11, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Edward Lacy, Jr. and Mildred Lacy Minter. She was the youngest of five siblings. Preceding her in death were her brothers, Edward Lacy III, Gilbert and Frederick Alonzo. Bonita completed her early education at the Alexander Graham Bell School for the Deaf in Cleveland, Ohio in 1963. She held several positions in the Greater Cleveland area and was known for her dependability, punctuality and conscientious work ethic. She was always willing to share her knowledge of Sign Language with others and make learning Sign Language a fun experience. When Bonita relocated to Maryland in 2003, she attended the Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland to earn her GED. She connected with the Shiloh Deaf and Hard of Hearing Outreach Center in Washington, D.C., and made many new friends. They remember her fondly as someone who loved to laugh, who always enjoyed a warm, caramel macchiato cup of coffee and asked many questions while travelling on short day trips in the Washington, D.C. area. Bonita accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, under the pastorate of the Reverend Dr. Jonathan L. Weaver and joined Greater Mt. Nebo A.M.E. Church in Bowie, Maryland. She ultimately became one of the founding members in the Deaf Ministry of Greater Mt. Nebo. She was extremely instrumental and her work was invaluable in the formation and development of the Deaf Ministry at Greater Mt. Nebo. That Ministry has since expanded to form The Signs of Praise, a signing choir that has ministered in both Maryland and Washington, D.C. She also worked closely with many deaf students of Gallaudet University to share the love of Jesus Christ and to expand their knowledge of Christian fellowship. Bonnie was a gentle, kind person who loved her family and especially her son, Frederick. She made sure that his needs were appropriately cared for and provided the necessities of life, as well as many of his desires. Her nurturing spirit was also felt by other members of her family as she assisted her mother with caring for the sick and even babysat for children of family and friends. Bonita leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her beloved son, Frederick Rudolph (Elysa); her devoted sister and care-giver, Kariel Lacy-Jones; sisters-in-law Loretta Ann Lacy (Edward, deceased) and Ruth Law Lacy (Frederick Alonzo, deceased), four grandchildren: Caleb Isiaih Feagin, Kaden Jamir Feagin, Yazlyn Kennedy and Willis Kennedy, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
