Bishop Mark Perry Obituary Mark Lamont Perry’s Life’s Journey Mark Lamont Perry was born into a family of anointed preachers on February 23, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio. Mark is the second born to the late Bishop Floyd E. Perry and Mrs. Jonelle Haynes Perry; a mother whom God told at his birth, “this is your gifted child.” He matriculated through the Shaker Heights School System and studied at Cuyahoga Community College. At an early age, Mark became a leader among his peers in junior and senior high school, church and in the community. He is known for his role in mentoring the male youths in his church as well as the community. As an athlete, his skills, passion, and abilities drew many young people to his various sports events that he sponsored. Mark received Christ at an early age during a youth revival when he was seventeen years old. Afterwards, many young people gave their lives to Christ, because of Bishop Perry serving as a Christian example. Mark was ordained as an Elder in 1978, Elder Perry served Ohio Southern Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction as the Youth Choir President. His musical attributes include playing the organ, trumpet, and guitar. Elder Perry helped many youths to avoid trouble by allowing them to use their energy and focus on education and positive attitudes. In doing so, it gave them an opportunity to become successful citizens and excellent leaders. In 1979, Elder Perry was appointed Pastor of West Avenue Church of God in Christ located in Ashtabula, Ohio. While residing in Cleveland, he drove to Ashtabula weekly noting that nothing could stop him from being the dedicated Pastor that he was, not even inclement weather. In 1985 Elder Perry was appointed Superintendent of Ashtabula District. In 1989, he was appointed Pastor of Williams Chapel C.O.G.I.C., and Superintendent of the Cleveland District. During Elder Perry’s tenure as the Chief of Enforcement of the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles, he continued to serve as a full-time pastor. In 1994, he was appointed Finance Chairman for the Ohio Southern Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. In 2003, Superintendent Perry was appointed Administrative Assistant to his father, Bishop F.E. Perry, Prelate of Ohio Southern Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. In November 2015, after the passing of his father, Bishop Mark Perry became Pastor of Cathedral Church of God in Christ and was elevated to the episcopacy of Ohio Southern Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. Bishop Perry also served on the National Election Committee of the National General Assembly of the Churches of God in Christ, Inc. Bishop Perry was a founding member and treasurer of GPAC, a political action committee focused on candidates who benefit the African American community. In 2019, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Renee Brown. She was a great support to Bishop and the ministry. He is the love of her life. Bishop Mark Perry is preceded in death by his father, Bishop F.E. Perry and son-in-law, Adrian Womack. On Friday, May 14, 2021, Bishop went home to be with the Lord. He preached Thursday night, like it was his last sermon. His subject was “I Can Holler If I Want To”. He genuinely loved the Lord. Bishop Mark Perry and Bishop F.E. Perry leaves to cherish his memory, his lovely and devoted wife, Mrs. Renee Perry; dear Mother, Mother Jonelle Perry; daughters, Tamika Perry Womack, and Amber LaShea Perry; son, Jonathan Lamont Perry; sister, Dr. Lanelle Perry; brother, Courtney Wayne Perry; nieces, Tramelle Hudson (Anthony), Marva Underwood and Dashae Hall; nephew, Christian Julian Perry; grandchildren; Delyn, Adria, Demitri, Abrielle, Emmanuel Womack, and Dakota Griffin (unborn); aunts, uncles, cousins, many godchildren, special mention to Nikki Clinard and Courtney Jordan; best friends, Superintendent John Banks, Pastor Archie McMillion, Superintendent David Reed, and a host of friends. Bishop Perry had many sisters and brothers.
