Bettye Gordon Obituary Obituary Bettye Ann Gordon, the eldest daughter of three to the late General and Decie Williams was born in Cleveland, Ohio, July 19, 1941. Bettye attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from East Tech High School. On June 3, 1961, Bettye married the late Joe Gordon. To that union they had two children Joey and Wendy. Bettye was very family oriented and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom for many years. She later started working in the MRDD field, where she retired from the state of Ohio, Warrensville Development Center as a Supervisor. Family and friends meant a lot to Bettye. Like her dad, Bettye loved family gatherings and cooking. Cooking and baking were her passions. If you asked for it, she had no problem making it and would let you know ‘this is the best around!’ Bettye enjoyed being busy. She was president of the Morland PTA, a member along with her children, of the Inner-City Ski Club in Cleveland, racing cars, and bid whist club. She enjoyed going on vacation with family and friends to Atwood Lake Lodge, Seven Springs, Angola Indiana, and Mohican State Park. Bettye organized all of these trips for her family and friends, just so they could all spend time together. She had a strong faith. As a young child and through her early married years she attended Catholic Church, but later devoted her faith to Affinity Baptist Church. Bettye had so many friends that she loved, and they loved her. Bettye and Joe would celebrate New Year’s Eve with a big party at their home. This included all ages from her parents and their friends to her children and their friends. After retirement Bettye stayed connected to her co-workers. They would gather at various locations including Bettye’s house where she enjoyed cooking lunch for them and always something sweet for dessert. Casino! Anyone who knew Bettye knew she loved a casino! Just the mention of the word she would light up. She and friends took many bus trips throughout the year to local and out of state casinos. Las Vegas was a favorite spot for her to travel to for casino fun. Bettye was a strong woman. She battled and beat cancer on three different occasions all while standing strong and faithful. On June 17, Bettye’s light went dim and she lost her fourth battle of cancer. Bettye leaves to celebrate and cherish her memories her two children, Joey (Zelda) Gordon, Wendy (Seaton) Woody and her bonus daughter Blake Gilliam; two siblings Valorie (LeNell) Allen, Denise (Ruben) Patterson and a God sister Leola (Gestand) Scott; five grandchildren, Briana, Ryan (Ola), Max (Heather), Aaron, Taylor; 7 great grandchildren, Yazmeen, Phanci, Prodigy, Carter, Aya, Halston and Rover; nieces and nephews, Kim, Kathy, Kelli, Ruben, Tiffani, Christian and a host of cousins, best friends, and many friends she has met along the way of her lovely life.
