Bernice Young

B ernice Carol Young was born to the late Leslie T. Young, Sr. and Ida Maria Brown Young on May 31, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio. Bernice spent her high school years at John Adams High School in Cleveland, Ohio where she graduated with high honors. She continued her education at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio and graduated with an undergraduate degree in Business Administration. She served as Corporal in the United States Marine Corps for six years. Bernice was also an administrator at United Airlines where she retired at age 50. Both her service in the Marines Corps and work with United Airlines afforded her the opportunity to travel around the globe. She traveled to over 20 different countries and all over the United States. After her retirement, she relocated to Owensboro, Kentucky to live in a warmer climate and be with her cousins and friends. She was an avid golfer and won many golf tournaments. She enjoyed gardening as she grew vegetables, herbs and flowers. She also enjoyed entertaining and opened her beautiful home to family and friends for many back yard cookouts and holiday dinners. Our favorite dishes of her's included macaroni and cheese, bean salad, dressing, waldorf salad, and spaghetti with Italian meat sauce made from scratch. She was the gourmet cook in the family and enjoyed experimenting with recipes and learning how to cook new exotic dishes. Reflections Bernice was born into the Universal Hager Spiritual Church where she completed studies in The Hagar's School of Mediumship and Psychology and Adept Courses. She was also a member of The Knights of the All Seeing Eye. Bernice loved her family dearly as she helped her Sister in raising her children and grandchildren, many of them lived with her during their childhood. She loved taking her nieces and nephews to the Museums of Art and Natural History. She also enjoyed taking them to see the Ringling Brothers & Barnum Bailey Circus, Disney on Ice, baseball and football games (She was a die hard Cleveland Browns fan). She looked forward to our annual Family Reunion and even carried on her Mother's mission of encouraging us to attend the reunions, in an effort to keep the family connected with out of town relatives. Bernice was preceded in death by her Brother, Leslie T. Young, Sister, France E. Rose-Young and two Nieces; Carol Marie McLaughlin and Lauren Ashley Brown. She leaves to cherish her memory: three Nieces; Martha J. Rose, Margaret E. Rose, Leslie A. Brown, and nephew-in-law Johnie; Eight Great Nieces and Nephews; Angela M. McLaughlin, Annette M. McLaughlin, Willie M. McLaughlin, Carol F. Rose, Candice N. Clark, Latrice Rose, Johntay M. Brown and Jaytee L. Brown, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who love her very much and surely miss her.
