Mr. Archie Lee Green

Age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Beloved husband of Ophelia (deceased). Dear father of Betty Howard (Donald), Archie L. Green (Debra) and Deborah Shepherd (Ronald). Cherished Papa of Donald II (Angela), Dierdra, Archie II, Ann, and Madison. Great-grandpa of Reid and Tristan. Loving companion of Diane Hunter. He was a Mason and a retired auto worker from General Motors. Visitation 11 A. M., Funeral services 11:30 A. M. OBITUARY Archie Lee Green was born to the late Shelly and Ada (Wilson) Green in Miccosukee, Florida, on February 25, 1925. He was the oldest of three children, Daisy Green Sanders (deceased) and Shelly Green Jr. (deceased). At the age of nine, Archie was baptized and became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Miccosukee, Florida, where he served until he relocated. During the early years of his life, Archie was raised by his grandfather. This life was very hard and demanding. At the age of fifteen, Archie saved enough money to purchase a one way train ticket to Miami, Florida, to be closer to his mother. After searching for work, he acquired employment at the famous Fountain Blue Hotel on Miami Beach. Archie worked his way up from dishwasher to cook, and it was there the foundation was laid for his excellent cooking skills that he maintained for life. In 1944, Archie relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, to gain greater job opportunities. He worked at the Auditorium Hotel as a Bell Captain, where he met many celebrities, which he would talk about over the years. However, as time went on, he knew the importance of having a job with benefits. In 1951, Archie began working for General Motors, Fisher Body Euclid Plant, which he retired from after 37 years of service. In 1946, he married his wife of 44 years, Ophelia Greene (deceased), and to this union three children were born. Archie was raised in a time where working the fields for survival took priority over finishing school. It became one of his primary goals that all of his children must be educated with college degrees. His famous quote was “I want three for three, to be educated”. Archie joined Bethany Baptist Church in 1991 under the leadership of the Reverend Albert T. Rowan. In addition he was a Mason. Archie never met a stranger. He could spend hours talking about religion, politics, sports (he lived to see the CAVS win the Championship), also, he was known by all for his swagger, clothes and words of wisdom to young people. He would say, “there are many roads to success, and it does not matter the road you choose to travel, just as long as you get there.” Archie leaves to cherish his memory his children, Betty Howard (Donald), Archie Lamone Green (Debra) and Deborah Shepherd (Ronald), his grandchildren; Donald Howard II (Angela), Dierdra Howard, Archie Lamone Green II, Ann Green and Madison Maynard, great grandchildren; Reid Howard, and Tristan Naus, his loving companion Diane Hunter, and adopted family members, Charlene and Terry Maynard and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
